Similarities and Differences Between CMMGs MkGs and Mk17

Glock® vs Sig Sauer® is a decades old argument, but CMMG® has a platform for both sides! Some questions and confusion have surfaced about these platforms. Here we will discuss the similarities and differences of the CMMG MkGs™ and the Mk17™.

The CMMG MkGs was our first 9mm Radial Delayed Blowback™ that was brought to market. It was engineered to accept small frame Glock double stack magazines like those found in the Glock 17, 19 and 26. The availability of Glock magazines combined with the popularity of Glock 9mm pistols made for an easy choice to release the MkGs.

However, with the ever-growing popularity of the Sig Sauer P320®, CMMG knew we needed to produce a platform to work with 9mm P320/M17/M18 magazines. It was decided to combine the features and benefits that were offered with the MkGs in this new platform. The Radial Delayed Blowback Mk17 was then introduced, engineered to accept all available P320 magazines.

Since the MkGs was CMMG’s first 9mm Radial Delayed Blowback, the upper receiver group was also named the MkGs upper receiver group. This has caused some confusion with the Mk17 and the other Radial Delayed Blowback 9mm models CMMG offers. To ease that confusion, know that all Radial Delayed Blowback 9mm models use the same upper receiver group, and have since been renamed as the ‘9mm Radial Delayed Blowback’ upper receiver group. The lower receiver remains the difference across the 9mm platforms.

The MkGs and Mk17 BANSHEE™ both offer eight different models of pistol and NFA configurations. Depending on series, BANSHEE barrel lengths vary from 5” to 8” through both platforms. The MkGs and Mk17 RESOLUTE® are available in three rifle models each that offer 16.1” barrels.

While CMMG has done nothing to diminish the dispute between Glock and Sig camps, the MkGs and Mk17 offer magazine compatibility for either group. This will allow magazines to interchange with existing firearms while saving money because a new magazine style does not need to be purchased. With all the models CMMG offers, it should be easy for any Glock or Sig enthusiast to find the one to suit their needs.
