The B Dapter/Plan B Suppressor Mounting System Explained

The Plan B suppressor mounting system has become one of the most popular quick-detach (QD) systems in the industry, with many manufacturers now offering Plan B-compatible muzzle devices, suppressor HUB mounts, and even dedicated Plan B-pattern suppressors.

Joining the landscape are the CMMG B Dapter HUB mount, RBB Muzzle Brakes, and SVB Muzzle Brakes. All Plan B-pattern and ready to go on your firearms and suppressors.

So what is the B Dapter & RBB/SVB mount system?

The Plan B-pattern B Dapter and RBB/SVB brakes are a thread-and-taper suppressor mounting system with no moving parts, delivering a secure seal that resists carbon fouling, minimizes point-of-impact shift, and keeps a suppressor securely fastened to its host firearm, even under hard use.

While there are some suppressors that have integral and non-removable Plan B-pattern mounts,  we will focus on HUB pattern suppressors. Those are modular suppressors, like the CMMG ZEROED lineup of centerfire cans, that have a removable mount and 1.375x24 "HUB" threads that let users use any other HUB compatible mount for QD, direct thread, or piston mounts.

There are two key parts of any QD setup.

  1. A Plan B-pattern muzzle device
  2. A Plan B-pattern suppressor mount

Why go with B Dapter & RBB/SVB vs other mounting systems?

The B Dapter mount is great for people that want to use one suppressor on multiple firearms without having to change direct thread mounts on the suppressor everytime you want to put it on a different gun. For instance let's say you have a ZEROED 46 suppressor. Instead of having to install a 1/2-28 direct thread mount on your can for a 5.56mm AR, then a .578-28 mount for a .45 ACP carbine, and then a 5/8-24 mount for a .308 bolt gun, you simply install an RBB or SVB brake on each firearm, the CMMG B Dapter (Plan B) HUB Mount on your suppressor, then you can move your can from gun to gun without any tools or swapping mounts.

While some other QD mounting systems with ratchets or locking mechanisms offer similar advantages, they are often heavier, have moving parts within the locking system that can break or wear out, or require two hands for installation/removal, and may not be able to be tucked beneath a handguard.

Muzzle Device

First, an RBB/SVB (or other Plan B-pattern) muzzle device is attached, and timed if required, per the manufacturer's instructions to your firearm. It's important to get a muzzle device that has the same thread pattern as your firearm and a bore diameter (hole through the muzzle device the bullet passes through when firing) that is rated the same or larger diameter than whatever caliber your firearm is.

(E.g. A CMMG Resolute in 9mm and 5.56mm both have 1/2-28 thread pitch, BUT even though a 5.56mm ZEROED SVB brake will thread onto a 9mm Resolute, the bore diameter is not large enough for the projectile to pass through, which will result in a ruined muzzle device, suppressor, firearm, and maybe worse if fired.)

Suppressor Mount

With the muzzle device attached to your firearm, then focus on your suppressor. If a B Dapter mount is not already installed, start by installing one on your can. The CMMG B Dapter works for all centerfire ZEROED suppressors and other 1.375x24 HUB pattern suppressors. With your Plan B HUB mount installed and properly torqued, it's time to witness the beauty and simplicity of the Plan B system.

The QD Magic

Now, bring your B Dapter-equipped suppressor to your firearm with its installed RBB/SVB muzzle device. Thread the suppressor onto the muzzle device until seated and lightly snug it down. You do not need to crank down hard when tightening as the matching tapers on the muzzle device and suppressor mount are angled to seal together, this prevents any gas or carbon leaking and requires about 20% more torque to remove than it does to install.

To remove, firmly grasp the, hopefully not hot, suppressor and turn counter-clockwise until the suppressor and muzzle device are unthreaded from one another. You'll notice that more effort is needed to remove than to install and how simple it is to move your suppressor from gun to gun.

When is this available?

The B Dapter HUB mount for suppressors with the 1.375x24 "HUB" threads is available now! CMMG B Dapter/Plan B compatible RBB and SVB muzzle brakes will be available starting June 1st, 2026.
